English Teacher in Sussex

I’m an experienced English Teacher in Sussex.

With full, advanced-level qualifications to teach English as a foreign language, I work with adults, either face-to-face or online throughout the UK.

Enjoy Learning English

In my opinion, English isn’t always easy to get to grips with. Just when you’re starting to feel confident, you’re confused by strange idioms and expressions. Plus, people speak fast – or they seem to.

But, it’s one of the most widely spoken languages in the world – almost a global way to communicate.

If you’re an international citizen, I have full TEFL qualifications and a raft of experience in English teaching to help you feel more self-assured and comfortable, both in spoken and written English. You’ll need to be committed but with my skills and your hard work you could be on top of your anxiety in no time.

Perhaps you feel your English is okay. However, you may not be picking up our subtle use of tenses. Or, you’re struggling with grammar. (For those experiencing stronger fears about speaking English, do refer to my additional work on second language anxiety.)

All my programmes are bespoke. And, I generally work with adults rather than younger people.

Master Your Second Language

If you’re a non-UK citizen living and working here, feeling insecure about your spoken English skills, commit fully to my teaching and coaching, and you could soon start to overcome your fears.

What’s Your Why?

  • You’re preparing for IELTS or a Cambridge exam.

  • You’d like to feel stronger and more confident speaking English at work. You want to sound natural.

  • You’re keen to travel the world, meet people and have great conversations.

  • You want to join a club or society. Maybe really understand what’s happening in the world. Get creative, perhaps, or use English better in a practical way, to make your life easier.

English Teacher in Sussex. How I Work

If you’re working towards an exam, I’ll use plenty of task practice and models for speaking and writing, as well as study skills to build your independent learning. If you’re learning generally, we’ll establish your goals and work forwards from there.

  • Real-Life: Everyday scenes and scenarios to reflect your goals. Where do you think your “gaps” are?

  • Get involved: Debate, film and music, art, reading aloud. Listen to and watch as much English media output as possible. For example, podcasts, TV and videos. It’s time to immerse yourself in your second language.

  • Real-life reading comprehension: We’ll work with authentic sources. For instance, newspapers, magazines and books. Which sections aren’t clear for you, for example? How can you clarify what the writer means?

  • Vocabulary: Let’s explore unfamiliar words and phrases – and start using them with confidence.

  • Feedback: Regular, constructive feedback to help you track your progress.

  • Mindset: I can tell you one thing for sure: You are better at English than you think you are.

If you feel your spoken English could be holding you back, get in touch with me for more information about how I can help you.
